The Thai Prime Minister has asked the public to wear black clothes for a one-year mourning period as a mark of respect for the death of His Majesty the King of Thailand.
PM Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha made the plea during a live television address at 7pm this evening, which was broadcast on all channels.
All government officials and staff will be required to observe the mourning period, he announced.
The general public was then asked to decide for themselves how long they think is an appropriate period of mourning.
There will be ‘no festivities’ for a period of thirty-days.
